Character attributes

Generals, family members and agents have attributes (the stars and numbers on their portrait). Almost all of them come from traits (personality and experience, gained over time) and ancillaries (retinue members and items). This section lists every trait and ancillary that raises or lowers each attribute, and exactly what earns or removes it.

How traits and ancillaries work

A trait collects points from triggers (events like "won a battle" or "ended the turn in a city with a church"). Each level has a points threshold: reach it and the character gets that level and its effects. Many triggers only fire with some probability, and some take points away. Ancillaries are simpler: a trigger either hands one over or it doesn't, and a character can carry at most 8.
